Super Basic went really well. The improvisers who sat in at the session were Marty McCavitt (keyboards), Brian Jones (percussion + drums), Jimmy Grapherty (saxophone + flutes), Bob Holub (accordion + guitar), Matt Wyatt (percussion + drums), and Wendy Hsu (electric guitar + accordion).

The music generated at the session was terrific. And audience (thought sparsed) was really into it. Sound and video recording of the session will be posted shortly. Here are some pictures taken by Greg of the Brige PAI.

HzCollective Presents "Super Basic:" Avant Garde Improvisation Session with Marty McCavitt

in Belmont, just across the Belmont Bridge from the Downtown Mall

Marty McCavitt (Richmond, VA) will ask invited improvising musicians from Richmond and Charlottesville to sit in and perform as solos, duets, trios & quartets in a semi-structured manner. Marty will set the vibe with a loose set of rules (ie. participants will perform at a moderate volume to soft - about the level of an acoustic ensemble. Participants should perform minimally or with restraint). This event hopes to engage those with interest in experimental/avant garde improvisation and set off a series of improvised music meetings in the central Virginia community.
